The Greg Brady Project

Welcome to the official Barry Williams' blog

My friends call me Barry. From time to time I also hear the name Greg. Yeah, as in Greg Brady. The Brady Bunch represents a fun time in my life. But it’s only part of the story. There’s more to say and that’s what The Greg Brady Project is all about – a place to say it. So, I’ve invited some friends to join me and share their perspectives on the Brady’s, the 70′s and just about everything else. Now, I’m inviting you…

Q: [by Purpleladydi99] Hi Barry, What was the one most important thing you learned from your tv mother and father???

A: To not play ball in the house and always tell the whole truth.

Q: [by carolbradylady] There is an actor in the Lipitor commercial who, in my opinion, really resembles you. I know you have 2 brothers, are any of them acting, and if so, is that your older brother?

A: I do have two older brothers but neither one is involved in acting or performing.

Q: [by dave2_13452] Hi Barry, I'm just discovering your website and I've been a fan of you and the Brady Bunch for well over 20 years. So, my questions are: How tall are you and Howard Stern? According to the pix he looks about a foot taller than you….Thanks DY

A: I am just shy of six feet tall. I don’t know exactly how tall Howard is but he does seem to tower.

Q: [by roxy_mango] Hey Barry, I'm 13 and have been a huge Brady fan for years. My question is, do you ever get sick of people asking you about the Brady Bunch? I mean, I know when the Brady Bunch first ended the kids wanted to shed their "Brady image" and I just wondered if you felt that way too or if you were proud of being on the show.

A: I am very proud of being a part of The Brady’s. As an actor I wanted to make a mark outside the show and think I have been successful in doing so. I am very grateful for the people who have enjoyed The Brady Bunch and all of our reunions over the years and I have friends virtually everywhere I go as a result.

Q: [by samnickel] In an on-line chat, you stated that your niece and nephews enjoyed watching reruns of the show. Do you know if they have enjoy any scenes/episodes in particular?

A: We haven’t talked about any specifics. It is enough for me to know they watch and think it’s cool Uncle Barry is one of the Brady’s.

Q: [by Natalie S.] Hi Barry! My question is in the opening song in the beginning of the show where you all are in your squares did you guys have some point or something to look at when smiling at specific family members? Like when you were smiling at Carol or Peter was there something to show you where to look & smile?

A: We didn’t have real people to look at which is what made doing those squares kind of hard. Instead they set up places with notebook paper and the names of our characters in the places they were "supposed" to be and we smiled at the paper. That’s acting!

Q: [by davide19] Are you related to Tad from "All My Children?"

A: Who is Tad?

Q: [by Trip7slady] Hi Barry! What's the best thing and the worst thing about being as well known and recognizable as you are? Love ya! Cheryl

A: The best thing is I like people and get to meet them all the time. The hardest part is being out with a friend and being interrupted when we want to be left alone.

Q: [by BLASSERCT] Hi Barry. My question is when the Brady Bunch was filming in Hawaii what resort and island did you stay at while filming those shows and did you ever venture back to the same resort since? My family is planning a trip to Hawaii in a couple years and I am clueless which island to stay on. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks You!

A: Hawaii is one of my favorite places in the world. While filming the Brady episodes we stayed at the Royal Hawaiian Resort on the island of Oahu. That is the most traveled to island in Hawaii and virtually all of the cultural flavors can be experienced there. My favorite island is Maui because it has such a nice mix of get away and get it on. There is plenty of reading about the islands and I suggest taking time to study so you can decide what would make the best vacation spot for you. Aloha!

Q: [by nolimitt99] Hi Barry. I have two questions for you. My first one is in the episode when you played football and got hurt, was the bruise on your stomach real? If so, what caused it? My second question is about the episode where Bobby beat everyone who played pool with him. Was he a natural, or did it take a lot of practice? Or was it set up to look like he was good?

A: I don’t like to give away trade secrets, but remember we are watching TV here. The bruises were applied by the make-up man and "Bobby" is not really a great pool player, but the camera caught his very best shots. How do you think they make superman "fly"?
