The Greg Brady Project

Welcome to the official Barry Williams' blog

My friends call me Barry. From time to time I also hear the name Greg. Yeah, as in Greg Brady. The Brady Bunch represents a fun time in my life. But it’s only part of the story. There’s more to say and that’s what The Greg Brady Project is all about – a place to say it. So, I’ve invited some friends to join me and share their perspectives on the Brady’s, the 70′s and just about everything else. Now, I’m inviting you…

Q: [by msdrumm] I have a different kind of question for you Barry. What kind of music do you listen to? What is your favorite song?

A: I listen to several different radio stations. I like pop, rock, 70’s and 80’s. My favorite song right now is U2’s, "it’s A Beautiful Day".

Q: [by TheRedOne4U] Hi Barry!! Got another question for ya–Seeing as how you are indeed a very busy man with the tour and all of your other many appearances you probably don't get too much time off, but if you could spend one week anywhere in the world doing anything you wanted, where would you go and why?? Hope you have a chance to answer this–Take Care!! Mary

A: This one is just fun to think about. I have always wanted to sail in the Mediterranean Sea. I’d like to start in Greece end up in Venice and visit al lot of the islands along the way.

Q: [by ima_howl] Barry, my husband and I are ADDICTED to our "Prom Queens Unchained" CD. I cannot tell you how fab it is and how amazing you sound. What was it like to be in that show? We try to picture in our minds how it looked, and it drives us crazy that we can't SEE it! We are both involved in Theatre and are very interested in producing it someday. Any advice? Any interest in reprising your role? ;) You're the best!!-Laura

A: You might be surprised to know that not only have I not been in "Prom Queens Unchained" but I haven’t seen it either. Keith Herrmann, the composer, is a friend of mine and asked me to sing on the soundtrack. I liked the idea of the show and really like the music. That’s how it happened. They have plans to do local productions of the show. I hope one comes near you. Take care everyone and Keep on Groovin’, Barry

Q: [by computergrg] I saw you in one episode when you were in Hawaii and you got into a terrible wipeout, Did it really hurt afterwards?

A: Yes, it did! I ran into a coral head, which is very sharp and very hard. Fortunately I was able to turn around under water and hit it with my feet instead of my head. It cut my feet, ended surfing for that trip, and made walking uncomfortable for several days. O the price we pay for art.

Q: [by vance714] Hey Mr. Williams: Just wondering, what do you think of Everclear's new song and video "AM RADIO" about the seventies. Thanks so much for your time. -Aimee

A: I love it and have talked with them about appearing on some of their concert dates. I think their spin on the AM song is very cool.

Q: [by ruthstoops] What did you think of the SNL skit with Janet Reno's special guest appearance. Are you a fan of SNL? I enjoyed it when they parodied the Brady Bunch in a skit where they had a contest with the Partridge Family. You ever been to Scranton? Don't rule it out!

A: I am a huge fan of SNL. Over the years they have parodied us several times and I always think it’s flattering. Yes, I have been to Scranton and will be there performing in the Sound of Music. Please come and check it out.

Q: [by msc4041] You didn't quite answer my question from before about that POLICE WOMAN episode you were in: how was it working with Anthony Carbone and Claude Earl Jones? Were they nice guys in person or were they as mean and ruthless as they were playing Pappas and Mcguire on the set of that episode and how did you get picked for the part of steve glass in that episode in the first place?

A: The reason you may not have been clear about my answer is that I don’t have perfect recall on their personalities. I was selected for the role after auditioning for the role. As actors we don’t always have a lot of time to get to know the players. I remember having a good time doing the show.

Q: [by Vance714] Hey Mr. Williams – First of all, how are you? Congratulations on your success with The Sound Of Music. After reading and graciously answering all these questions, is there a question you would like to be asked. And, what's the answer? Thanks for reading all that. :) -Peace, Aimee

A: Hi Aimee, No there isn’t one question that I always wished were asked. There a a few I get asked too often however. If there is a subject in an interview I want to cover I try to guide the topic around to that point.

Q: [by alicoburn] Hi Barry. I saw the show in Des Moines on Sunday. You were great! What did you like best about Iowa? Thanks, Alison

A: What makes travel enjoyable for me is the people I meet. For the week we were in Des Moines I had a chance to meet several really great folks. I enjoyed the slower pace of Iowa(compared to New York)and there was a real friendliness there. The weather could have been warmer for my taste, so I’d like to visit in the Spring.

Q: [by dmaheux] Dear Barry, We were fortunate to be able to visit the Grand Canyon this past summer, and found ourselves wondering about the Bradys' trip there. Do you recall which observation points you were filmed at, and which hotel you all stayed in? Also, I realize that you didn't really film at the bottom of the Canyon, but did you get to visit the bottom at all? Finally, we'd love to see the Sound of Music come up to Maine, or at least Boston! Thanks and best wishes, Denise

A: The Grand Canyon is a truly exciting place to visit. We spent just over a week there and the names of all the places don’t come readily back, but the experience of visiting it certainly does. We didn’t go all the way to the bottom of the Canyon, but far enough to appreciate its grandeur. Glad you had a good time there too. Regarding The Sound of Music, Baltimore and Washington D.C. are probably the closest and most convenient stops on our tour from Boston. We are there in late March and April.
