The Greg Brady Project

Welcome to the official Barry Williams' blog

My friends call me Barry. From time to time I also hear the name Greg. Yeah, as in Greg Brady. The Brady Bunch represents a fun time in my life. But it’s only part of the story. There’s more to say and that’s what The Greg Brady Project is all about – a place to say it. So, I’ve invited some friends to join me and share their perspectives on the Brady’s, the 70′s and just about everything else. Now, I’m inviting you…

Q: [by us287jle] Have you ever played any electric guitars? And what type, solid-body or hollowed bodied?

A: My guitar playing is acoustic. I have a wonderful Rameriz classical guitar and an Ovation that I occasionally hook up to an amp but it is not what you’d call electric. My guess is you do some electric jamming - push the ceiling.

Q: [by zach65] Do you have a horse?(Kathryn Williams, Nashville, age 10) P.S. I'm your biggest fan!

A: I owned a quarter horse named Ya-teh-ha(Navajo for hello and pronounced Ya-teh-hay) before I started filming the Brady Bunch. I love to ride and love horses but currently don’t have my own horse, it’s tough having a horse in New York City where I live, but maybe one day in the future.

Q: [by bloomeeny] I realize that this probably didn't come up on The Brady Bunch very often, but when a TV character is depicted partaking in whiskey, bourbon, and similar beverages, what is the actor actually drinking? Thanks

A: Different things and sometimes real whiskey. Generally however the concoctions are provided by the property master and it is watered down tea or something non-alcoholic that matches the color of the high octane variety.

Q: [by smgsman289] What was it like to work with the Brady Bunch? How many days did it take to work on just one episode? The most important question is what is it like to be a celebrity and have every one talk about you?

A: I enjoyed growing up with the "Bunch". We got along very well and went through tons of changes during the five original years of our show. Even to this day we remain friends. Each episode took four days to film, quite a bit of time for one half hour don’t you think? To me being a celebrity is a little like a measure of success. I am thrilled so many people have enjoyed our show and the other work I have done. Because the Brady Bunch has been on everyday of the past three decades literally millions of people recognize me from that show alone and I find it’s a bit like having friends wherever I go.

Q: [by Rubyeye324] Barry – What do you make of the whole Levy/Condit issue?

A: Let’s find Chandra, well and safe. Gary Condit has pretty much torpedoed his career. I think the message that should be delivered time after time is that you must be candid if your actions are called into question. Tip toeing around issues and being less than forthcoming is sure to keep the issues alive.

Q: [by purpleladydi99] Barry, Good luck on your new role as band manager on SCLUB7!! When will be able to see you in your new role. What things do you look for when choosing roles?? I have read in the past you had an idea for a new series, are you still working on it? Congrats on the new role!! Diane

A: Thanks, I am having a great time working with S Club 7. The new shows begin airing Saturday, September 15th. Timing is everything when looking for a role. I don’t have a set criteria for seeking a role. Much has to do with what the role is, who I am working with, what the time parameters are. Yes, I have ideas for a series and yes I am working on it.

Q: [by citra] Hi, Barry. My name is Diego and I live in Australia. I'm a fan of "The Brady Bunch". You know about "The Cincinnati Kids' episode, what was your favorite ride there?

A: I love roller coasters and they have a great one. Also I got to ride in their hot air balloon with Christopher Knight and that was a gas.

Q: [by tigerstar101] Hey Barry I'm really excited about seeing you in the new S Club 7 in LA Season. Can tell us everything about it who your character is his name some story lines your involved in? Carine

A: I am the band’s manager, Dean Strickland - "The Dean Machine". They are a great group and we are having the best time making the shows. The season starts with me looking for a band and them looking for a manager and we meet by coincidence. Each show takes on a different aspect of show business and recording and of course each episode features a performance by S Club.

Q: [by smile_20_1999] Hi Barry! How are you. I just want to know how long did it take you to finish "Growing Up Brady"(the book)? It is a nice book.

A: I spent two and a half years researching and writing the book. It was a much more ambitious project than I had imagined but I am glad I took the time. I am pleased with the results and happy that you are too.

Q: [by ap265] What's your favorite baseball team? Who's your favorite on the team? -Amber-

A: Mark McGuire of the St. Louis Cardinals
