The Greg Brady Project

Welcome to the official Barry Williams' blog

My friends call me Barry. From time to time I also hear the name Greg. Yeah, as in Greg Brady. The Brady Bunch represents a fun time in my life. But it’s only part of the story. There’s more to say and that’s what The Greg Brady Project is all about – a place to say it. So, I’ve invited some friends to join me and share their perspectives on the Brady’s, the 70′s and just about everything else. Now, I’m inviting you…

Q: [by salley_22] Barry, Do you like the Beatles? Good luck in the future!

A: I love them yeah yeah yeah. Talk about growing up with a musical group... they were it. They changed the world of pop music, I learned to sing their songs, play them on the guitar and found my own groove to their tunes. Yes, I like the Beatles.

Q: [by Rubyeye324] Hello Barry! I know that you wrote the song "The Real Greg Brady" will employees of the station Z100… what station can you usually be caught listening to?

A: Z100, PLJ, WNEW and of course here in NY: 1010n Wins all news all the time. I give them 20 minutes they give me the world.

Q: [by bj_85_98] Mr. Williams I was wondering how come you have not released the songs "Good Time Music" or "You Got To Be In Love To Love A Love Song" those are my favorite Brady songs but i cannot find them on a cd or anything except for a very Brady sequel soundtrack but that is not the original Brady six! Do You plan on ever releasing these songs?

A: I am glad you enjoy those songs, however I don’t own them. The decision for releasing them is with the publishing company. If they ever do a greatest hits volume II maybe they will be on it.

Q: [by sheil] A couple of years ago I saw a picture of you with some Himalayan cats. Do you own Himalayans? I am a Himalayan Breeder and am very curious if you own any of these beautiful creatures.

A: I loved my cats! Yes they are Himalayan and great pals. They are no longer with me but(aside from constantly having to groom them) I really enjoyed those guys.

Q: [by mhignite] How accurate are the "pop-ups" in Eye Boogie's Brady Pop-Up shows recently shown on Nickelodeon?

A: Very accurate. The producers called every Brady who would take their calls and except for the usual dissenters got some pretty insightful information on the Bunch. In addition to laughing out loud when I watch "Pop Up" I have learned things I didn’t know.

Q: [by den_irvin] Hi Barry! In your book I noticed a picture of you Brady 6 meeting the Jackson 5….what was it like meeting the Jacksons and what did you guys say to each other??

A: The Jackson’s and the "Brady’s" crossed paths several times during the seventies. They lived not far from Christopher Knight and he was friends with Michael. Maureen was a friend of LaToya and she visited our set a few times. They are a very talented group of musicians and performers. I have followed their careers and I am currently looking forward to Michael’s TV Special with the family.

Q: [by ty_asper] I saw you in "The Brady Bunch Movie" and kind of thought you stole the show in your small scene. Does the big screen interest you?

A: Yes. In many ways shooting a television show and a movie are similar but the budgets for a film are generally much larger. This translates into more time and care with scene work. It look forward to making movies a more active part of my career. It wouldn’t hurt to expand the limitations of the "Greg Brady" image.

Q: [by den_irvin] What was it like performing with Jack Wild from HR Pufnstuf(along with the Brady Bunch..HR was probably my other favorite show of all time!!!)

A: HR Pufnstuf is the brainchild of the Krofft brothers who you probably know produced the Brady Variety Hour. We have very good relationship with them and all of heir characters. Getting to know them is one of the privileges of being at the same studio at the same time.

Q: [by Frecklesgerl] Barry, HI!~ I am 14 years old and love the Brady Bunch Re-runs! Your my favorite character-and I think your hot! I was wondering what would you say about each character(Actor) you worked with? PS: are you really Barry answering–or a agent?

A: I think of the Brady’s like a second family. Although we did not know each other when we first began(we met the first day of filming) through the years we grew to like and appreciate each other. Maybe that’s why we are all still in touch today. It was a wonderful and powerful experience "growing up Brady" and one I am very grateful for. P.S. Yes this is really me, Barry.

Q: [by mtstern] Is it difficult playing other roles when most people just think of you as Greg Brady?

A: No, it’s not difficult playing other roles. I have been an actor almost all of my life and have trained for lots of different roles and have played many different characters. Sometimes it’s more difficult to get an audition for certain parts because of my identification with the Brady’s. I have been fortunate that typecasting hasn’t derailed my career. Onstage I think people first associate me with the series but that is quickly replaced by the character I am playing - at least that is what I am told.
