The Greg Brady Project

Welcome to the official Barry Williams' blog

My friends call me Barry. From time to time I also hear the name Greg. Yeah, as in Greg Brady. The Brady Bunch represents a fun time in my life. But it’s only part of the story. There’s more to say and that’s what The Greg Brady Project is all about – a place to say it. So, I’ve invited some friends to join me and share their perspectives on the Brady’s, the 70′s and just about everything else. Now, I’m inviting you…

Q: [by ldybug89] Hi Barry. Was Susan Olsen a little shy when you first met her? Or was she outgoing? Thank you so much for taking the time to answer my question. Thank you Barry. Your #1 fan, Kayla

A: Of all the Brady kids Susan is and was the least like her character Cindy. She has always been outgoing, has a great sense of humor and a memory like a steel trap. We are good friends to this day.

Q: [by stankfunk] OK Barry, my friend and I have a bet going on that you appeared in an SNL episode with Jerry Seinfeld in a skit called OZ. Was it you? Thanks. Your the real Greg Brady! Corey

A: I hope you bet it wasn’t me. I have been on SNL but not with Jerry. I sang a party of the Brady Bunch Theme song the night David Schwimmer was the host. Fortunately he brought all of his friends co-stars with him.

Q: [by chinadoll23us] Hi Barry!! If you could choose some celebrities to participate in a celebrity boxing match , who do you think would be good opponents? I think Monica Lewinsky and Linda Tripp would be funny opponents!

A: I think that is a great idea. I don’t know if they would commit to doing it but I would watch that one for sure. I am assisting with the arrangement of the matches and I am always looking for good suggestions. Let’s see what happens.

Q: [by alwaysgo] Mr. Williams, When you made guest appearances on other tv shows back in the sixties did you collect and save autographs of the cast of those shows? Did you also collect and save autographs of famous actors that made guest appearances on the Brady Bunch?

A: My favorite thing to collect is photos. I have photos from almost every show I have done but unfortunately autographs are not on them.

Q: [by danloririchman] Dear Barry, Hope you are doing well. I was saddened to learn the death of Robert Urich in Thousand Oaks, California. Did you ever have a chance to meet him? Did you guys ever do any appearances for charity.

A: I have the utmost respect for Robert Urich. I watched his shows frequently and could be considered a fan, however I did not have the pleasure of meeting him.

Q: [by skm] Is Barry Williams currently in an orange juice commercial featuring a Brady Bunch song(Sunshine Day)?

A: It’s not me. Can you believe the good folks at the Orange Juice company didn’t even contact me.

Q: [by alwaysgo] Mr. Williams, I remember you appearing on Gomer Pyle back in 11/68 playing an autograph seeker. Was the scene you were in filmed on the studio lot or downtown LA. What was it like working with Jim Nabors and Frank Sutton? Were they talkative to you? Did you get their autographs for real that day since they were very famous.

A: They were very famous and I watched the show all the time. There were a couple of things memorable about doing Gomer Pyle. Both Jim Nabors and Frank Sutton were very pleasant to work with, and I did get Frank’s autograph for real cause that was what my character did in the scene and I kept it. Also our director was John Rich who had directed me in an episode of That Girl. He became the director of the first seven Brady episodes and it probably didn’t hurt that I already knew him before the casting process for the Bunch.

Q: [by limpbizkitgrl182] OK I am a total Blink 182 fan but my friend asked two extremely hard questions i just could not answer so I was wondering if you can help. OK so the first question is what was the name of Mr. Hoppus' very first boat and the other one is which professional surfer lived with Tom Delonge during the recording of Chesire Cat? It would be alot of help if you can help me with these questions.

A: Okay I dig Blink 182 too. However I have no idea regarding the answers to your questions. Maybe someone who is reading this can help you out. Good luck.

Q: [by glambe1] Hello, I just discovered the website. Nice job on "These Are The Days Of Our Lives" by Queen, and "Champions". I was pleasantly surprised by your work. Singing Freddie Mercury songs cannot be easy. Being a huge Queen fan here are a couple of questions. Are you a fan of the group? Have you met Brian May or Roger Taylor? Did you have to change the keys from the originals on those songs? Keep up the great work! I hope the Williams/Monkee tour makes it close to Minneapolis somewhere. Thanks for your time!

A: Sure I am a fan of the band. And no I have not met the members. Keys are a very important part of getting to a song. Higher or lower is not good or bad it just depends where the song settles best in your voice. On The Return of Johnny Bravo I did several "covers" and changed the keys for most of them - some up and down to find what felt and sounded best. I think I changed "Champions" but "These Are the Days is the original key. I look forward to seeing you while I’m on tour.

Q: [by mulrich418] I was wondering if there are photo's of the original sets of the Brady Bunch series that was filmed on Paramount Studios' Stage 5, I have seen photos of the house used for the outside, but I was just wondering if there was any on the set. Thanks, Mark Ulrich

A: There are original architectural plans for the house. They are used for the reunions, movies and Growing Up Brady. Also there were tons of pictures taken of the cast on the set which is clearly visible in the background. Only Paramount Studios knows if there are original photos of just the set.
