The Greg Brady Project

Welcome to the official Barry Williams' blog

My friends call me Barry. From time to time I also hear the name Greg. Yeah, as in Greg Brady. The Brady Bunch represents a fun time in my life. But it’s only part of the story. There’s more to say and that’s what The Greg Brady Project is all about – a place to say it. So, I’ve invited some friends to join me and share their perspectives on the Brady’s, the 70′s and just about everything else. Now, I’m inviting you…

Q: [by theflyingmantis] ALOHA Mr. Williams. EVERYDAY I watch "The Brady Bunch" on tv land. I remember watching it when I was in high school. And I'm ALWAYS wondered about celebrities and how they deal when they live in apts or condos. Well…you now live in New York and i saw a picture of you w/your guitar in your New York apt(?!) on your lanai. Well, my question is, HOW you deal it when you have neighbors that is a brick away?! Do they just, leave you alone?! And since you're a MEGA STAR, is it difficult o be alone?! I mean, I KNOW you LOVE meeting your fans, but…well, how you deal with trying to be alone?!

A: I find generally in a living situation neighbors are respectful of privacy. I sometimes run into trouble when I travel and stay in hotels but I like meeting people and enjoy talking with them so it never really turns into a problem. Airplanes and cruise ships present a different circumstance because there really isn’t any place to go if I do want to be alone for a bit.

Q: [by sgtjwilliams] Are you a 3 Stooges fan, and if so, which is your favorite?

A: Sure I love watching Three Stooges movies. I relate mainly to Moe. I was always the one trying to create order out of chaos and failing miserably.

Q: [by lesliedixon] Hi Barry! I was wondering what kinds of things you and the other Brady kids(Maureen McCormick, Eve Plumb, Chris Knight, Susan Olsen, Mike Lookinland) did around the set when you weren't filming? Did you all get along well? Did you have any sleepovers? It's a weird question, but I'm sure there are some people who see it only as a job. They may not realize just how much time you spend with those people. Thanks for your time. Love, Leslie

A: You’re right, we did spend a great deal of time together. During some of the year we were together as Brady’s more than with our own respective families. Around the set we were encourage to be "kids" and we took advantage of the playground we were provided, Paramount Studios. We hung at the other sets like Mannix, The Odd Couple, and Bonanza. We played on the catwalks on the sound stages, sometimes played tennis against the wall outside. We also socialized with one another occasionally. It was a tremendous experience.

Q: [by hopsing1032] Hi Barry, Happy Holidays to you and your family. My question is before you got the part as Greg on The Brady Bunch, what show or shows that you made a guest appearance on, did you think was your best performance?

A: I am proud of my work on Marcus Welby M.D., It Takes A Thief, and Mission Impossible.

Q: [by lisaloo73] Hi Barry! Since you are in the music industry I was wondering if you have heard of the newest rising star? His name is Josh Groban. Josh is only 21 and has a voice that people of all ages are drawn to. I'd like to know from your point of view what you think of his singing. Thank-you for taking the time to answer my question. Have a Sunshine Day! ~Lisa from Cleveland~

A: Hi Lisa, I am aware of Josh but do not yet know his music well enough to critique it. He has a wonderful reputation but I haven’t yet sat down to really listen to him. Thanks for asking though.

Q: [by _cbyerchick20] Hi Barry! :) Hope you had a great holiday and a happy new year too! They are now showing the younger seasons of the Brady Bunch on TVLand. The one episode, is where you build the house out of cards. When tiger accidentally bumps into you and the house knocks down, two cards are left standing, How come those two didn't knock down? I was just wondering! Thanks a bunch :)

A: And a very happy new year to you as well. Ah, the magic of television. There were slim steel rods that ran up through the cards to hold them up in the first place. When the rods were pulled to allow the cards to fall, one of the property masters didn’t pull it far enough and a couple of the cards remained "standing". Good catch.

Q: [by pmelora] Hey Barry, Hope you remember me, I was the Indian at the Hammonton NJ appearance you had. Do you enjoy signing autographs an meeting people, especially woman who had a crush on you when they were young? Thanks!!! Anthony

A: I very much enjoyed my evening at Hammonton. Yes I enjoy meeting people and everyone at our "parade" was very pleasant. It was a privilege to be there and I send everyone good wishes for the new year.

Q: [by bwood] Of all the people you've met in your lifetime, what one person has inspired you the most, Barry? Thank you. Barry Wood, Nova Scotia, Canada.

A: If I had to pick one it would have to be my Dad. But there are several who have inspired me in different ways. Sir Paul McCartney, Sir Elton John, President Reagan, Robert Reed, Robert Wagner, Peter Graves, and for other reasons... Heather Locklear.

Q: [by mgsmatrix] Mr. Williams – Do you happen to recall what brand of zipup dressboots you wore on The Brady Bunch. Do you currently own any mens zipup dressboots? Thanks!

A: Congratulations. I thought I had been asked about nearly everything regarding the Brady’s and our fashion statements. Yours however is the first question regarding our patent leather zip up shoe wear. Alas, I do not know the brand of dress boots and no I do not own a pair of them today.

Q: [by Glen Gordon] Hi Barry … do you keep in touch with Leah Ayres(Fake Marcia) from "The Bradys", Geri Reischl(Fake Jan) from "The Brady Bunch Hour" and Jennifer Runyeon(Fake Cindy) from "A Very Brady Christmas" and what did you think of their portrayals as Bradys?

A: I can’t say I am in close touch with the alternate Brady’s. I have corresponded with Geri Reischl a couple of times. I think all three of them did excellent jobs in a very difficult circumstance since we are so familiar with the originals.
