The Greg Brady Project

Welcome to the official Barry Williams' blog

My friends call me Barry. From time to time I also hear the name Greg. Yeah, as in Greg Brady. The Brady Bunch represents a fun time in my life. But it’s only part of the story. There’s more to say and that’s what The Greg Brady Project is all about – a place to say it. So, I’ve invited some friends to join me and share their perspectives on the Brady’s, the 70′s and just about everything else. Now, I’m inviting you…

Q: [by kramey38] Barry, since the Brady Bunch years, what would you say you feel has been your greatest professional thrill? Personal thrill? thanks,kr. ps. I loved the Brady Bunch as a child and now it is so wonderful to see my own children love it too! :)

A: Opening night on Broadway starring in Pippin. Personally, I have a four year old son and he rocks.

Q: [by frisky_m] Hi Barry, after having been a child/teen star, would you reccomend that same road to other youngsters who are interested in the buisness?

A: I tell my young son he can be anything he wants, even a former child star if he is so inclined. right after college.

Q: [by djhunt] Hi Barry, There's something I've been wondering. When the Brady Bunch Kids sang at concerts, did you guys get to pick the color of your suits, or were they assigned to you? Thanks.

A: Those costumes were designed with input from the kids by Michael Lookinland’s mother. It was a very in-house thing. Some of them we had made and others the mother’s pitched in and created.

Q: [by CarolynMJ1977] I just got done watching the Brady Bunch Variety hour on DVD. Susan Olsen mentions that when she first started working with you she thought of you as an adult. Did you think of her as just a kid? Were the two of you ever close? Are you close?? And my second question is – growing up – Did you ever run into Hayley Mills or Walt Disney? Did they ever do a day at Disney for the Brady Bunch? I just know Disney was big into kid actors and I was wondering how you got along with that company and those Disney actors. Carolyn

A: Sure, when we started filming the Brady Bunch I thought of Susan Olsen as a “kid.” She was a kid. We have grown even closer over the years and she is a very good friend of mine. I did a lot of television work with Disney as a kid. I was never part of their “stable” though.

Q: [by glworth] Do you ever get tired of answearing our endless questions with your busy schedule? And how does it feel knowing everyone loves you?

A: Answering questions is one of the ways I have to keep in touch with people who care about our show and what’s current. One of my favorite things in life is being adored even when I am sometimes confused with being a fictional character...

Q: [by vg56436p] One of my favorite episodes of The Brady Bunch is "Goodbye, Alice, Hello," where Alice the maid leaves temporarily and is replaced by a maid named Kay, and the kids want Alice back later on. I thought it was pretty deep and well done. What do you think of that one?

A: I liked it because it was one of the few episodes to focus on Alice and it dealt with the real a deep affection the Brady kids had for her. I always keep in mind that no matter how hard they tried, Mike and Carol could not have done it without Alice.

Q: [by Astephanie7] Barry, Did you ever go to any of your class reunions? I did I when to my 20th and it wasn't the best one at all. I did go to my 10th and that was a little better then my 20th. I hope are 25 or 30th is much better then this one was for me?

A: No, I have not been to any of my class reunions mostly because I spent the last two years of high school and graduated from private studio school and Maureen and I were the only two students. I have attended friend’s reunions though. It’s fun to look back sometimes.

Q: [by bunnye124] Do you have any brothers or sisters?

A: Yes, I have two older brothers. Craig, four and a half years older and Scott, three years older.

Q: [by pjs2020] Barry, I love all of the Brady shows but especially The Brady Brides. When that series started what did you think of the idea? Did Eve and Maureen jump at it and get along? Thanks!

A: It just goes to show we all have our own taste. I thought the Brady Brides was not very well developed. I didn’t believe the couples were actually married for one thing. I mean, come on, couldn’t Marcia have done better? And living in the same house???? Anyway, while I did appear in the MOW I did not have a part in the series, which mercifully was short lived. I do think Maureen and Eve enjoyed working on it together.

Q: [by: davensue1] I just heard your show for the first time 2 weeks ago when I rented a car with Sirius. Unfortunately I own GM vehicles which have XM in it. I have a couple of questions: 1. With XM and Sirius merging, when can I get you on XM?? 2. Do you have a website where I can listen to your previous shows on Sirius? And of course I have to a personal question. You are an extremely talented performer! I am curious to find out what other areas do you excel in? e.g. carpentry, cooking, hot rods, etc. And did you ever pursue those areas of interest as a 'shadow' career?

A: It is going to be a while before Sirius and XM merge. When they do I expect there will be a major shake-up in programming. I am not aware of any place were previously aired shows can be heard but hey, I am making new ones every day! I love sports and play a lot of tennis and golf. I swim and scuba dive but I have never considered doing any of them professionally.
