The Greg Brady Project

Welcome to the official Barry Williams' blog

My friends call me Barry. From time to time I also hear the name Greg. Yeah, as in Greg Brady. The Brady Bunch represents a fun time in my life. But it’s only part of the story. There’s more to say and that’s what The Greg Brady Project is all about – a place to say it. So, I’ve invited some friends to join me and share their perspectives on the Brady’s, the 70′s and just about everything else. Now, I’m inviting you…

Q: [by kline1149] Hi! I saw you on the Brady Bunch reunion special on TV Land, with Jenny McCarthy, and I was wondering if there were any questions that Jenny didn't ask that you wish she had.

A: Well, I sorta wish she would’ve asked me to go out on a date. Otherwise I think she covered it.

Q: [by tackett] Did any of the cast members from The Brady Bunch attend your wedding?

A: Only my Mother and Father and my wife’s mother (her father was deceased) attended my wedding. Christopher Knight was at the reception, which was in New York City and explains why more of the Bunch didn’t come.

Q: [by auntydd] First of all, HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY! You were the answer to Entertainment Tonight's celebrity quiz. When were you on General Hospital? And also what is the toll free number to Totally 70's? I can never write it down fast enough. Love the show and pray you never leave!

A: Thank you. 1982. And 877-33-SIRIUS 877-33-747487. Thanks for writing and please give us a call. I am having a great time with the “Totally 70’s”. On the Barry Williams Show I get to play music with a melody and songs you can sing along with. Take good care.

Q: [by ron] Barry, it's a flat-out honor to even submit a question to you! I'm a school teacher by day, and children's performer on the weekdends … I grew with the Bunch, of course, and happen to also love the Variety Show! Was it flawed? Why yes, but no fault of your own — you sang and danced your heart out! Anyway, I'm wondering about one of your statements that around '77 you shelved an idea for a solo album because there was an idea to do a Brady album at that time — was the idea to do a Variety Show type of record? I would love to know! I like some of the tunes from that show, and would love to know what kind of extra work (besides filming) had to be done in terms of recording! Thanks for your time, any info truly appreciated! Thanks, Ron

A: I was in the middle of recording a pop album produced by Tim O’Brien when the record company got the bright idea of doing Brady albums. Everything changed course at that point. There never was a discussion of doing a “variety type” album. One of my solos efforts appears on the Greatest Hits Sunshine Day CD; Cheyenne.

Q: [by bdrust] Hi Barry, could you tell me more about the beach you surfed in Hawaii, would you recommend it, and where do you surf in LA?

A: The break in Hawaii is known as Popular’s. It is just south of Waikiki. It is an excellent break though it is all lefts. In LA I surf Malibu, Latigo, Sunset and a couple of beaches near the Santa Monica pier. Mostly now I surf when on island vacations.

Q: [by elvismoose] Hello, Barry! I am always interested in the domestic side of famous people, so I was wondering what a typical, rare "lazy" day would be like for you. Also, were you on "General Hospital" in the early '80s or does my mind deceive me?

A: I have a 20 month old son, what is a “lazy” day? I enjoy tennis several times a week, and golf occasionally. A walk on the beach is a favorite. Yes, I did a stint on General Hospital in the 80’s as a devilish dance instructor who took advantage of the ladies of Port Charles.

Q: [by thejankowskis] My co-workers and I listen to trivia everyday on the radio. Today's question was "What T.V. series has a cat named Fluffy who was replaced 36 times?" I said, "Fluffy was only in one episode of the Brady Brunch, so it must be something else." The answer they gave was "The Brady Bunch". How can this be?

A: I can understand your confusion. I don’t see how it could’ve been the Brady Fluffy either; Tiger could only chase two cats a day.

Q: [by tnmlove27] My name is Tracy. In the movie Growing Up Brady did you really have a relationship with Maureen. I really like to know bc I'm just curious.

A: I would like to refer you to some excellent reading material, Growing Up Brady. There you will find answers to more questions than you can even think of. Of course you could also rent the DVD Growing Up Brady which is based on the book and covers several areas of interest. But in case you’re too busy, and for the record, yes Maureen and I had a thing goin’ on for a while.

Q: [by Rach70] What is the TV Hit Parade tour that you are doing?

A: In the Spring of 2005 I will be doing a variety show with Loretta Swit and Adrian Zmed in Performing Art Centers around the Country. It is a new show, all music. As we get a little closer I will let everyone know the dates and more about the content, which is not fully written yet. It should be a ton of fun.

Q: [by ozcoffee] Have you ever thought of offering a clothing line of many of the shirts you wore on the television show?

A: Sure, but the market for polyester, stripes and plaids with paisley prints has diminished. What might have a shot is the Johnny Bravo Line: “Fit the suit and be a rock star.”
