The Greg Brady Project

Welcome to the official Barry Williams' blog

My friends call me Barry. From time to time I also hear the name Greg. Yeah, as in Greg Brady. The Brady Bunch represents a fun time in my life. But it’s only part of the story. There’s more to say and that’s what The Greg Brady Project is all about – a place to say it. So, I’ve invited some friends to join me and share their perspectives on the Brady’s, the 70′s and just about everything else. Now, I’m inviting you…

Q: [by ocrules] I recently read Maureen is going to be doing Celebrity Fit Club 5. What do you think about this? I would never expect her to be on that show.

A: I think she surprised a lot of us. However, she thinks it is something that will be helpful to her and I support her. She has dealt with a lot of family issues over the past few years including the loss of her mother, whom she had been taking care of. She has unexpectedly gained more weight than she is comfortable with, and maybe Celebrity Fitness will provide the discipline she needs.

Q: [by ljhgwr] Barry, my husband was a photographer for the Kenley Players cast parties at Marion's Pizza in Dayton, Ohio, where your photo still hangs to this day. I was wondering if you could share any memories you might have of the shows you did on the Kenley circuit. Thanks!

A: I did several shows for John Kenley and had a great time with them. One of my favorites was PIPPIN with Tommy Tune as the Leading Player. I did two productions of GREASE and Marion’s was always the after show spot to go. John just turned 100 years old two months ago and he can still kick over his head.

Q: [by frozenhope17] Do you remember any particularly funny scenes in the Brady Bunch that had to be shot over and over because somebody (or everybody) couldn't keep from laughing?

A: Sometimes toward the end of the day we would get punchy and everything seemed funny and consequently held up production. That has a lot to do with how well we all got along.

Q: [by Schmitzsznn] Hi Barry my name is Austyn and I am a Brady Bunch fan. I was just wanting to ask were you a Gilligan's Island fan?

A: Yes. That’s one of the reasons I am going to Florida next month to star with Dawn Wells in GILLIGAN’S ISLAND THE MUSICAL. I will be playing Thurston Howell and Dawn is my “lovey”.

Q: [by glworth] Hey, Barry. Have you ever read J.R.R. Tolkien or watched The Lord of the Rings movies? What do you think?

A: I have seen two of the movies and loved them. Extremely creative and thought provoking. I look forward to the next installment.

Q: [by thnktexas] Hey Barry, are you doing any theatrical work in the near future?

A: Coral Springs Florida at the Cultural Center for the Arts in December a new musical called MY CATSKILLS SUMMER. I am excited about playing a 79 year old grandfather. In February I will be doing GILLIGAN’S ISLAND THE MUSICAL at the same theatre. I will be playing Thurston Howell.

Q: [by choirgirl20042005] Hi Barry. I was just wondering about something in the episode "Dough Re Mi". Was Chris's voice REALLY changing or was it just acting. I couldn't tell. Peace out: Leighann

A: That is a compliment to Chris Knight. Although his voice was changing around that time in his life, he was merely acting for the cameras.

Q: [by rwhopkins] Besides "The Brady Bunch", what has been the highlight of your career?

A: My opening night on Broadway at the Imperial Theatre starring in PIPPIN.

Q: [by joshuacaseyccsu] Hello Barry. First, you put a lot of time and effort into answering these posts and for that I commend you. Ever meet Tommy Lasorta? If so, I'm guessing he was a good guy.

A: Sure, several times. Most recently he was a part of my special BARRY WILLIAMS INSIDE TVLAND. I threw out the first pitch at a Dodger game and Tommy coached me on how to do it. It was as much fun as Don Drysdale teaching me how to throw a curve ball or Joe Namath teaching me how to throw a touchdown pass. Tommy is a very gracious man.

Q: [by chavalabobby] Did you ever met the Governor of California Arnold Schwarzenegger?

A: No, I haven’t met the Gov yet. But with another four years in office I wouldn’t be surprised if our paths cross. By the way, I voted for him, again.
