The Greg Brady Project

Welcome to the official Barry Williams' blog

My friends call me Barry. From time to time I also hear the name Greg. Yeah, as in Greg Brady. The Brady Bunch represents a fun time in my life. But it’s only part of the story. There’s more to say and that’s what The Greg Brady Project is all about – a place to say it. So, I’ve invited some friends to join me and share their perspectives on the Brady’s, the 70′s and just about everything else. Now, I’m inviting you…

Q: [by danielle] Hi! I really enjoyed you and everyone in G.I. the musical. Thanks for coming here. How much do you have to rehearse for a show like that?

A: Thanks. I had a great time in Coral Springs and miss my new friends. We rehearsed for three weeks. I think Gilligan has a future in touring productions and will be back.

Q: [by lush466] Hi Barry, Love your book and your website. I just saw the new photos circulating of Bonaduce. You climbed in a ring with that guy!! Very brave. Did you have any idea what you were getting into? Did you think he'd take it so seriously? Do/did you guys know each other well? Were you guys friends as kids or was there too much competition between the Brady's and the Partridge Family?

A: I did not know Danny was a trained boxer or blackbelt in Karate. I did the boxing to raise funds for the Lupus Foundation. I took my "lumps" for Lupus.

Q: [by toliver615] Just wanted to say loved watching you on the Brady Bunch. I do have a quick question maybe you could help settle for my family. Are you related to Brad Garrett?

A: Here is the quick answer: NO.

Q: [by GRAMLINS2000] Hi Barry. I wanted to ask you, about an interview that took place on the Oprah Winfrey Show with you and Barbera Bilingsly? It seems to me that show took a different turn and got weird. What happened?

A: It seemed weird to me too. I don’t know why.

Q: [by baahemm65] Hello Barry~I love your radio show. I was just wondering how long have you worked for SIRIUS SATELLITE RADIO? What year did you begin? Thank you, Annette

A: Thanks Annette. I have a great time with Totally 70’s. I have been hosting my show, which runs Sunday through Friday from 2 - 6pm eastern, since April of ’04.

Q: [by volkwood] Thanks for all of the great years on the Brady Bunch. I enjoyed every episode as a kid, and I'm glad that the reruns are around for my own children. We often hear about teen/child actors who have problems after their show business days. Have the Brady kids fared better? I have heard that you had a drug problem but kicked it (thank God!). Have the other kids had those sorts of issues?

A: I don’t know where you heard I had a drug problem, but I didn’t. While we may not have lived the squeaky clean lives of our Brady characters, I am happy to say all of the Brady "kids" are doing well and are successful adults and none of us has done any jail time.

Q: [by tlaughon1] What month was kings island filmed?

A: It was during the summer and I believe it was late June. I say that because when we went outside the studio it was typically the first episode we shot for the season.

Q: [by stanjb67] Barry, how much fun was it doing that pie scene at the movie studio?

A: Uh, a gas. And the director let us go wild.

Q: [by sbenty] Our family was in Waikiki recently where you filmed several scenes of the Hawaii episodes. As you are entering the water to begin the surfing competition, you are clearly on the main beach as you can see your hotel (Sheriton) in the background. Did you switch locations for the actual surfing? It doesn't seem like the waves would be high enough there for your scenes. Also, at the beginning of the episode when Robert Reed announces you are heading to Hawaii, you all look tanned already. Did you do that scene after filming the main episode? Thanks for the show and the memories!

A: The surfing was filmed about ½ mile toward Diamond Head from Waikiki. As I recall we filmed the scene where Mike tells us about Hawaii before we went. The tans could have been from the California sunshine. I LOVE Hawaii.

Q: [by jgrobertson] Hi, Barry. Greetings from Canada! I saw you sing the national anthem at a Buffalo Bills home game. (I believe it in 1993.) How did you get that job?

A: I asked.
