The Greg Brady Project

Welcome to the official Barry Williams' blog

My friends call me Barry. From time to time I also hear the name Greg. Yeah, as in Greg Brady. The Brady Bunch represents a fun time in my life. But it’s only part of the story. There’s more to say and that’s what The Greg Brady Project is all about – a place to say it. So, I’ve invited some friends to join me and share their perspectives on the Brady’s, the 70′s and just about everything else. Now, I’m inviting you…

Q: [by] Hi Barry, I saw recently where Don Ho passed away. I know when filming the Hawaii episodes the cast met him and he appeared as a guest star and was curious if you had the chance to keep in touch with him through the years or if you were a fan as many of us were. Congratulations on the TVLand Awards. You guys certainly deserve it. Eric-KY

A: I was honored to sing with him at his show in Waikiki just a couple of years ago. What a terrific entertainer he was. Very nice man and he will be missed.

Q: [by bradmore11] I remember watching the Brady Bunch Variety Hour. Did you enjoy filming that show? Also, what did you think of some of the hosts of other variety shows, like Carol Burnett, Flip Wilson, and Sonny and Cher?

A: I really liked the variety show format. It was fun, entertaining, changed every week and usually featured great music performances. So I was very happy when the Brady’s were asked to host our own variety show. The guests we had were terrific, the show was a gas to do even if the quality of the show was a bit campy.

Q: [by jpjordan4] Hey Barry, Did you ever party with any of the BEATLES?

A: Party? Only with their albums. I have met Paul and Ringo but wouldn’t say we are close.

Q: [by jomamas.sxm] Have you ever been to St. Martin in Grand Case on a harmony night?

A: No, but I’d like to. I love St. Martaan. Send the particulars and let’s have a party.

Q: [by darthfury] When Robert Reed invited you and the rest of the cast members of the Brady Bunch to travel onboard the SS France, what was your impression of the ship at the time? Was the ship as majestic as they said it was? Thanks!!

A: Well, we traveled to South Hampton from NYC aboard the QEII. It is a beautiful and well appointed ship. An extraordinary adventure for all of us. The SS France was the largest passenger ship of the day but I haven’t sailed on it.

Q: [by robin.ohman] In an episode of the first season of the show, Marcia is shown wearing braces, which seem to magically disappear from further episodes. Were they props, just meant for that one episode, or real but only worn for a short time?

A: Maureen wore braces for approximately four hours. The braces were for “show” only.

Q: [by gh4ever33] Are there any actors in particular that have inspired you over the years? Thanks.

A: Gene Hackman, Al Pacino, Jeremy Irons, Sean Connery and Robert Reed.

Q: [by harry] Dear Barry. I'm 23 – just finished off the last episode of The Brady Bunch. I have to say your performance was especially terrific in the final episode and throughout the five series – I certainly feel inspired. I think perhaps the best moment for me was in "Welcome Aboard" when you guys got to pieing one another – it looked like so much fun! That was really a laugh out loud moment for sure. How much of this sequence was pure acting as opposed to an all-out food war? Harry :-)

A: The pie throwing scene began as a scripted idea but it quickly dissolved into an all out food war. It was great fun and we didn’t even have to wash the clothes.

Q: [by aunt2ten] Hi Barry, How come Susan and Mike don't have websites? Just curious about that. Since I read you fly Jet Blue once a month, how would you handle sitting on the runway for 11 hours? I would be livid myself. Anyhow, grew up with the show, and loved it. As I tell my young niece, I am the same age as "Jan". She thought I was nuts since Jan was obviously a girl.. Had to explain that BB was on since I was a girl. Lol!

A: I don’t know why Michael and Susan don’t have websites. I will see them on Saturday, April 14th at the TVLand Award Show and will ask. I fly Jet Blue more than once a month. It is the airline I try to fly exclusively. I find it to be the best run air service going. No one likes to be sitting on a runway for an extended period of time. In the case of the Jet Blue experience, the wheels froze to the runway and the JFK airport did not have the equipment to free them up so they could taxi back to the gate. I think they have that cleared up now.

Q: [by roger] What is the name of the woman in the 70's cd collection infomercial you did? She seems to be in every commercial these days and I wanted to know her name. Thanks. P.S. I listen to your show on Sirius 70's channel.

A: Erica Schaffer. Thanks for listening to Sirius totally 70’s. I just found out that Chris Knight is the newest loyal listener.
