The Greg Brady Project

Welcome to the official Barry Williams' blog

My friends call me Barry. From time to time I also hear the name Greg. Yeah, as in Greg Brady. The Brady Bunch represents a fun time in my life. But it’s only part of the story. There’s more to say and that’s what The Greg Brady Project is all about – a place to say it. So, I’ve invited some friends to join me and share their perspectives on the Brady’s, the 70′s and just about everything else. Now, I’m inviting you…

Kansas Anyone?

‘Kansas Anyone?’

This has been a very exciting week in the world of Barry. The Greg Brady Project has officially been launched and promoted as of Tuesday. This is the culmination of 9 months of discussion, criteria, and research. Here we are. The hard part is now complete; let the dialog begin. I am changing gears in a big way next week. I closed my Off Broadway musical GROWING UP 70’s on December 30th and am preparing to head to Kansas City, Kansas to start another new musical called MARRIED ALIVE.

GROWING UP 70’s fulfilled an ambition I have had since before I was a teenager. While I have had my runs on Broadway, in PIPPIN, and ROMANCE/ROMANCE, both were take-over roles, the first for John Rubinstein and then for Scott Bakula. I always have wanted to be in on the ground floor, at the beginning, to create a new role in a new show and have a run at it. Well, with GROWING UP 70’s I was not only in on the ground floor but along with other key players such as club owner Anthony Dinapoli, and director/writer Jason Summers, I helped create, develop, write, co-produce and star in a new musical which we played right in Times Square. Anthony Dinapoli even made sure to have my name and color photo on the Marquee facing Broadway.

It was such a joy to be working with our talented cast, talking about what I know a lot about, the 70’s, and singing the songs I love, grew up with and learned how to sing to. The show was very well received by our audiences as they enjoyed their ride back through yesteryear. The big test was to see how the 20 and 30 something’s enjoyed the play, since they only know about the 70’s through history books and the feedback was positive.

Beginning Monday I start rehearsals at the New Theatre in Kansas City for MARRIED ALIVE. I am looking forward to creating another new show with a new cast. I am already into the process of memorizing lyrics and dialog and now the creative part begins. On Monday we all meet for the first time. There are only four of us, playing two married couples one young and hopeful and the other well… mature and let’s say more realistic. I really enjoy collaborating and discovering how to bring the written page to life by exercising my imagination. I’m sure I will be commenting plenty more as this new process unfolds. Stay tuned, and if you get the chance – say hi in Kansas.

Hope your rehearsals go well–I’m in California but if I happen to go through KC, I’ll look up your show. :)

What fun it was to find your blog tonight. On a whim, I decided to see what “Greg” was doing these days, and was happy to find a normal, down-to-earth guy, blogging just like this little ol’ normal Brady re-run watcher. I feel privileged to actually send a comment you might read, lol! :)

I did not know about this! Having lived in the greater KC Metro area since ’86, I will be SURE to see this! Good luck with everything you do and I hope you enjoy your stay. = ]

Barry, welcome to Kansas! Land of Ahs! I live in Wichita, and have been a Kansan all my life. And of course, a watcher of The Brady Bunch. I have followed your career over the years, and am happy that you will be performing in Kansas. I’d love to get to Kansas City to see the show.

FYI: The New Theatre is located in Overland Park, Kansas not Kansas City, Kansas. Didn’t want all of you die hard Greg fans to get lost! Good luck on the show!

Enjoyed seeing you at the New Theatre last night. You did a great job and provided some much needed laughter for this overworked husband and wife!
