The Greg Brady Project

Welcome to the official Barry Williams' blog

My friends call me Barry. From time to time I also hear the name Greg. Yeah, as in Greg Brady. The Brady Bunch represents a fun time in my life. But it’s only part of the story. There’s more to say and that’s what The Greg Brady Project is all about – a place to say it. So, I’ve invited some friends to join me and share their perspectives on the Brady’s, the 70′s and just about everything else. Now, I’m inviting you…

Q: [by lush466] Hi Barry, Love your book and your website. I just saw the new photos circulating of Bonaduce. You climbed in a ring with that guy!! Very brave. Did you have any idea what you were getting into? Did you think he'd take it so seriously? Do/did you guys know each other well? Were you guys friends as kids or was there too much competition between the Brady's and the Partridge Family?

A: I did not know Danny was a trained boxer or blackbelt in Karate. I did the boxing to raise funds for the Lupus Foundation. I took my "lumps" for Lupus.

Q: [by danielle] Hi! I really enjoyed you and everyone in G.I. the musical. Thanks for coming here. How much do you have to rehearse for a show like that?

A: Thanks. I had a great time in Coral Springs and miss my new friends. We rehearsed for three weeks. I think Gilligan has a future in touring productions and will be back.

Q: [by mylifeingeneral6] Hi I saw the episode of you on Full House and was wondering the song you sang with Barry & The Rippers who originally sang that song i loved it and want to download it thanks.

A: I cannot tell you because they didn’t tell me. I did like the song however.

Q: [by nanetten] Just wanted to say the "Brady Bunch" was always a Friday night "must-see" while I was growing up-thanks for being part of a great show that featured values all of us could derive from. My question…I noticed that, through the years, the "Brady family" had different cars. My favorite was the 1973(1974?)Red Chevrolet Caprice Convertible, which, by the way, was in one of my favorite episodes(Greg/Bobby on a "double-date". My question for you…what was *your* favorite car from the series?

A: The convertible dodge Barracuda. I wish I had that car now.

Q: [by danielle] Hi! I really enjoyed you and everyone in G.I. the musical. Thanks for coming here. How much do you have to rehearse for a show like that?

A: We rehearsed for three weeks before our first public performance. That is about average for a show but I have done it in a week.

Q: [by eric6001] Hey Barry. Odd question, but really curious. I'm fascinated with set design and I have always wondered something. When you would top the stairs of the Brady House and round the corner, what was actually up there? I assume the rooms that were supposedly up there were individual sets, but always wondered what was actually at the top of those steps?

A: The sets were laid out on one level of the soundstage. The stairs led to the top landing and around the corner were the catwalks which were used to hold the overhead lights for filming. So when we rounded the corner we just stopped and the director yelled cut.

Q: [by djhunt] Hi Barry, do you or the other cast members still watch reruns of the Brady Bunch on TVLand every once in a while?

A: Yes. I fly JetBlue every month and they have individual TV’s for each seat and sometimes I will watch one of the Brady episodes it makes the time go faster.

Q: [by jlhollands] Barry, you have a wonderful singing voice. Had Brady Bunch not come along would you have pursued a singing career?

A: Without a doubt. I knew from the beginning music and singing were going to be a large part of my career. I love to perform on stage.

Q: [by jgrobertson] Simple question: Why do you think The Brady Bunch has retained its popularity over the years? Not many shows have been so enduringly popular. (I'm 42 and I still watch it religiously.)

A: Timeless morality. Real situations. Not controversial. Family values. Groovy fashion statements. We were filmed in color.

Q: [by mysteryman343] Do you still smoke cigarettes like you said you were doing in the episode where you got caught doing it?

A: No. It has been a struggle but I am and have been smoke free for some time.
