The Greg Brady Project

Welcome to the official Barry Williams' blog

My friends call me Barry. From time to time I also hear the name Greg. Yeah, as in Greg Brady. The Brady Bunch represents a fun time in my life. But it’s only part of the story. There’s more to say and that’s what The Greg Brady Project is all about – a place to say it. So, I’ve invited some friends to join me and share their perspectives on the Brady’s, the 70′s and just about everything else. Now, I’m inviting you…

Q: [by taryn1321] Have you done any commercials for phone companies in the last 3 years? My family thinks you did one for AT&T recently.

A: No AT&T commercials. I am the spokesperson for Time Life’s; 70’s Music Explosion.

Q: [by knotisland] Barry, Did you have advance knowledge that Maureen was coming out with a book? Any thoughts? Do you know if the other "Brady's" will follow? Thanks!

A: Maureen and I speak regularly and yes, I have been aware she is working on a book for some time. Hers will include much more than just the Brady Years and include her challenges with, eating disorders, addictions, depression, and family dysfunction. It promises to be illuminating. Susan Olsen is working on a book about the Brady Bunch Variety Hour. Florence has put out a cooking book and who knows maybe a Brady Book to follow.

Q: [by calabresenan] Barry, Just saw that You and Maureen appeared on the Singing Bee. It looks like she has really opened up with the cast on participating in various events. Do you often keep in contact with the other members of the cast?

A: Yeah, Maureen has had a turnaround regarding her participation in all things Brady. I am glad she has rejoined the Bunch in a public way. It will open a ton of new a fun things to do. BTW I believe the Singing Bee episode will air Dcember 4.

Q: [by swinstead] I was watching the new show on NBC called "CHUCK". Aside from him playing a "geek" and you "cool", it is like you could be twins at that age. His girlfriend…… is like Maureen with long blond hair. The ONE thing that really stands out is You and Maureen have blue eyes, while these charaters on Chuck have brown. Another similarity is Josh Schwartz is the producer…………. a relative to Sherwood Schwartz?

A: I’ll have to check it out. Sherwood Scwartz has a lot of relatives and I don’t know if Josh is one of them.

Q: [by dolphinfan68] Hey Barry. It was great meeting you today. I was at the jet when you climbed out (you signed an autograph on the yellow piece of paper). What did you think of the Strike Eagle? We were glad to have you and hope you enjoyed your visit to the base and flightline. Take care…Randy Hodges

A: The most awesome ride of my life. Most impressive. I especially appreciate the team work and coordination that goes into making events like this happen. Nearly everyone I talked to at SJAFB says they have the best job on the base. There is such pride. Major Hills treated me to a fantastic experience of what that beautiful bird is about. Climbs, dives rolls, power turns, low flight/high speed, bombing runs, and wing to wing flight. By the time you saw me after the flight I was worn out and very happy. I feel like I have a Base full of new friends, including you. All the best.

A: Television shows and styles tend to cycle. We may not be seeing any more shows with the innocence of the Brady’s however because socially we are much more jaded than we were in the seventies. Also sitcoms are more concerned with getting the "laugh" than developing the story.

Q: [by jenirons34] Hi, Mr. Williams! Loved you on the Brady Bunch and all the spinoffs, reunions, etc. I also really liked your performance on "Highway to Heaven". What was it like working with Michael Landon, my television hero?

A: I am very proud to have worked with Michael. He was a very generous actor and gifted writer and director. He was a very loyal employer as well. Many of the crew on Highway had been with him since the Bonanza days.

Q: [by sck869] Barry, I just bought the complete dvd Brady Bunch set and love it except for the lack of cast participation. Do you like the new packaging or do you prefer the single seaason sets? Thanks!

A: I think they missed a bet by not having our cast do commentary. I like the idea of one big complete set but I am not a fan of the green shag carpet box.

Q: [by cardfan67] Your part in the driving test against Marcia was emmy worthy. Can you share what was really going through your mind when the script called for you to hit the gas pedal and KO that egg?

A: I felt stupid.

Q: [by ALLEN] Are you a hockey fan?

A: Yes, it’s a great sport. I have sung the Canadian and National Anthems a few times at Sabres games in Buffalo.
