The Greg Brady Project

Welcome to the official Barry Williams' blog

My friends call me Barry. From time to time I also hear the name Greg. Yeah, as in Greg Brady. The Brady Bunch represents a fun time in my life. But it’s only part of the story. There’s more to say and that’s what The Greg Brady Project is all about – a place to say it. So, I’ve invited some friends to join me and share their perspectives on the Brady’s, the 70′s and just about everything else. Now, I’m inviting you…

Q: [by biz] You have said that Michael was the most musical of the Brady kids. How so? Did he play musical instruments like you?

A: He was a fairly accomplished piano player by the time he was nine. He read music and had a good ear and voice. He easily could have pursued music.

Q: [by alainaschaefer] Did you ever want to have a solo singer career or did you like singing with the other kids?

A: Solo is the only way to go.

Q: [by chavalabobby] Did you ever met Tom Cruise?

A: Tom who? Just kidding. I’m a big fan but I have not met him.

Q: [by bobbysbabe65] Just discovered your website and have also just found your radio show. I have a couple of questions~ (1) Do write with your right or left hand? (2) Will you update your book past 1999?

A: 1) I am right handed; 2) I have no plans to update Growing Up Brady

Q: [by kate] Hi Barry – I watched the episode where Alice is considered the "Snitch" by the kids – sorry couldn't find the title of that show…but in one of the scenes there is a poster of a surfer behind your bed. Is it anyone famous? Is it you? Thanks for your time.

A: That is a poster I had hanging in my own bedroom. He is not a famous surfer but it is a great shot.

Q: [by calabresenan] Barry, I know you all thought Frances Whitfield was a wonderful all around person. My question is when you had schooling on the set was it a automatic pass for all the children or were you actually all assigned grades for various subjects. Also how much time a day did you have to spend in school.

A: There were no "automatic passes" but studio teachers are committed to seeing that we did well in our studies. We were required to have an accumulated three hours per day in increments of no less than 20 minutes.

Q: [by susannah1964] Barry: I have been listening to you on the 70's channel and just love all that old music from the 70's top 40. It really brings back a lot of memories for me. Do you like that era of music or do you listen to more recent bands? Also, I heard that you are single. If so, are you dating and how is that going for you?

A: Yes, I love the 70’s music. That’s why I enjoy being a DJ for Sirius. I listen to all kinds of music, especially classical when my three year old son is in the car with me. I am a divorced father. I am dating. It is going well, although for the first time in my life I come with strings attached; my son. His name is Brandon.

Q: [by gregleverett] I love the Brady Bunch and I'm a child of the 70's also. My question is in the one where the kids are trying to scare off buyers of the Brady House so they wouldn't have to move. Was the spooky sounds heard while you recorded it or was it added in later? You may not want to give away the secrets.

A: Oh I don’t mind... the sounds were added later. We were, well, umm... acting.

Q: [by simpsons] Hi Barry, On the episode Adios Johnny Bravo, there was a song that the character Buddy played. It is where you said "…it's terrible, you can't even hear the words..". It sounded like a neat little tune. Was this song recorded in full or just done as a snippet for the show? Thanks so much!

A: I also liked the song that was used. Unfortunately only a small part was actually recorded and as you can hear, with plenty of echo. That is me singing.

Q: [by jatm27] Barry, do you get to choose any of the music on your radio show? If so, who are your Top 3 70's artists? John Melandro

A: I help choose some of the material. My favorites are Elton John, The Eagles, and Fleetwood Mac.
